Charlee's Slice
How has it already been a week since we saw Dawes? I meant to write this as soon as I got home last week, but alas I know find my life being taken over by another meaningless, soul devouring, customer service job. I arrived in Bellingham last Friday night after working a 5am to 1pm shift. I met Rachel, Brandon, Brandon’s mom, and her roommate at a beautiful Bellingham/French restaurant, La Chat Noir. I was so amped up on coffee I was like watching a tornado on a trampoline. Thankfully our waitress could see my distress/coffee induced anxiety, because immediately after taking my order she returned to our table with a tasty glass of wine, overfull in a way that would make the French turn up their noses.
Dawes was stellar. Beautiful. They were exactly what live music should look and sound like, and I enjoyed every minute of it including their role as Johnny corndog’s back up band. It was exactly the right thing to kill off my bad week and start the weekend off right.
Rachel and I spent Saturday shopping. I got a sweet vintage shirt that I am in the process of replacing the buttons on. Saturday night was the whats up! Award show. My drum instructor played with the opening band. It was entertaining, and they sounded really good. I just had a problem being there, like my social anxiety was on overdrive or something. I probably wasn’t being judged, but I know that is what hipsters do best, so the whole time I just felt like I was being talked about and I don’t know if that is narcissism or paranoia, but that was pretty much how my Saturday night went.
Other things of note: I got hit on by my gorgeous dentist. I almost got killed by a grandpa driver, while I was in my parked car. I got a free breakfast from Georges’, but it came to me cold, and there is nothing worse than lukewarm eggs. Also, I bought a ticket to LA and I leave in one week.
Rachel's Slice
Dawes. I don't even really know what to say. I've seen Dawes so many times now that I could have written my review in my sleep. But, we haven't had anything published yet, so I just keep holding my breath and Brandon and I have both had our share of nightmares of opening What's Up! and not seeing single one of our reiviews on the pages. It was so wonderful to have Charlee up for the weekend. Indian street just isn't the same without her.
But besides all that, I have plenty of other things on my plate. On the 19th of March, I will graduate with my BA in Creative Writing. I have two Grad school applications due within the next few weeks and three essays due this coming Monday. It's quite the stack of writing I'm staring down at the moment. On the bright side, Brandon took some really great pictures of me, even some vintage-esque ones in the university library. So I'll be able to send them out to my family and say "Look! I'm not awkward with braces anymore!" Life is happily moving in so very many exciting ways.
Life on the homefront is good as always. Brandon and I are going to Canada the week before I graduate, taking the train up like some crazy romantic holiday. We're going to hit some breweries, have some fun, enjoy Canada. It'll be beautiful! Until then, we just hang out, get drunk, go dancing and see rock shows. Perfect life together.
Well here's to the next few weeks, to savoring and loving. Take care dears:)
XOXO, Rachel
